 Autumn Still-Life

Janet Fish

Autumn Still Life
Realist painter, Janet Fish was born in the city of Boston and raised on the island of Bermuda. She received her B.A. from Smith College and her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Yale University. Influenced by De Kooning, she is interested in depicting the physicality of the object through the movement of light rather than format.

In a recent publication on her work, Romulus Linney stated: "For me, she gives to the plain events and objects of ordinary life, presented in calm and serenity, an inner motion that is furious." Fish describes her process as a dance involving her, the objects, the painting and the sensations of the painting.

It has also been said: "Her paintings communicate a certain joy and appreciation of the world around her, which she intensifies and imbues with a life-affirming energy."
