Wisconsin native Frances Myers spent a considerable time in San Francisco
and London before returning to Madison, where she teaches at the UW. She
has been described as an "Imagist with vision." She has concentrated on
printmaking - etching, monoprint, and woodcut- although she frequently
spends blocks of time painting and drawing.
According to the critic
Kip Fitzgerald, "She commands attention and scrutiny in her work in two
separate ways. The first, by the powerful employment of a palette of
primary and complementary colors, and secondly by the marvelous effects
of washes, strokes, scratches, and linear drawing she shifts into and
out of.
