Miriam Schapiro
Miriam Schapiro is a pioneer in feminist art that reevaluates roles assigned to women in art and society. She embraces those crafts traditionally associated with women, and uses them as a foundation for her art in an attempt to give further credence to the role that women have played in the history of art. Schapiro is one of the first artists in history to make art addressing the feminine experience.

The prints she created at Tandem Press continue in the vein of her paintings Collaboration Series: Mother Russia. Her new prints recall figurines created by the Russian avant-garde artist Alexandra Exter for ballet and theater costumes.

Schapiro states that these works "represent a continuation of an ongoing series of collaborations [she] began many years ago. These imaginary collaborations combine [her] own ideas and collage/femmage impulse with concepts and images derived partially from paintings made by celebrated women of the past."
