Elaine Scheer made her reputation as a creator of installations-large
scale temporal works of art which allow the viewer to step inside the
piece and even participate in it. Her interest in teapots began with
an invitation to a teapot ceramic show in 1992. With both Russian and
British grandparents, Scheer realized that tea was a part of her family
heritage.
In 1995 she traveled to China and she recorded her visit by
making twenty three teapots accompanied by drawings. This led to an
exhibit Yixing Diary: A Journal in Teapots of My Travels Through China
- an appropriate name since Yixing is the Chinese city where the teapot
was invented 500 years ago, and one of the stops on Scheer's visit.
The print China depicts many teapots placed in a cabinet.
The teapots are all printed on separate sheets of paper and a collector
can rearrange them.
