Like many 20th century artists, Steven Sorman has made mixed media a central part of his repertoire. He constantly experiments with media, layering materials and images to create fluid shapes and sinuous lines along with seductively beautiful color that flows in measured movement over expansive surfaces.
In Steven Sorman's prints the viewer sees overlapping forms, layering glazes, and transparent veils of color which suggest more than mere movement. The prints also depict atmospheric depth and serenity. His prints also convey his delight in ornamental effects that have linked him with Matisse, Matherwell, and Rauschenberg.
